I just thought I would share a bit about Will's progress and life with our crazy two year old. We've had a lot of positive news over the last few months. Most recently was Will's weight check. He is up to 25 pounds and is at the 15th percentile! He's actually moving up the growth chart which is awesome and lets us relax a bit about his picky eating. He lives on cheese, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and Pediasure. Every now and then he gets a little more adventurous, but not often. :)
Will is doing really well at school. He cried when we left for the first few days, but now he just gives kisses and hugs and runs off to play. He spends most of his time playing at the sand/sensory table and is always excited to see his therapists. Right now we are focusing mostly on his speech and he has an individual session with the speech therapist every Friday morning. He is speaking in complete sentences, but is VERY hard to understand because his words have no consonant endings. So now we have lots of hand motions to teach consonant sounds and it feels like sign language all over again. We had some success today however. Right before nap time Will said "hat" and included the "t" for the first time. Every little success is a celebration around here!
William still sees his physical therapist once a month although we are considering increasing that as well. Although Will is doing great walking and getting around, he still falls a lot and is very unsteady on his feet. He is also favoring his right side so we are working on building strength on his left side. The therapist has put William back into orthotics to help with pronation. Now that he's on his feet more he spends most of the day with the braces on, but he doesn't seem to mind them. They definitely do NOT slow him down.
William can go go go and he is into everything and on top of everything. In the cabinets, over the couches-he'd climb the walls if he could. He has absolutely no fear. It is great for development, but a little hard on us! Yesterday we ended up at the pediatrician's office after Will took a tumble off the bottom of the slide. He put his teeth through his lip and tongue and swallowed some wood chips. We ended up at the doctor's office to make sure he hadn't gotten wood chips in his lungs or splinters in his throat. On Sunday he fell off the couch and hit the coffee table which left a lovely cut on his chin. He keeps us on our toes and I know its only a matter of time before we end up in the ER. Oh well, if Mike's mom survived Michael's childhood, I guess we will get through. :)
Post trauma. :)
